The mechanics of weight loss is simple; energy lost must be greater than energy gained. You gain energy from the various foods and other nutritional supplements you consume; you lose energy through regular everyday activities, even breathing. The problem is a body at rest or doing regular activities does not utilize most of the energy that is consumed from the average American diet. The result is weight gain. All that extra energy is converted to fat and stored for later use, the problem is, that fat will sit there and keep building up and it has nowhere to go. The solution, we need to get our bodies in a state of negative energy balance, increase our metabolism or decrease our food intake so that we lose more energy that we gain.
Basically, we want to increase how much work our body does, so exercise is key.
Running, swimming, jogging or going to Gym for strength exercises are all ways in which you can increase your metabolism and reduce your weight. On another hand you can reduce the amount of food you consume; if you eat less this will also lead to a negative energy balance. Choosing healthier foods will make this route easier, switching from fatty to more protein based foods will enable your body to maintain a good energy balance and prevent any excess energy from being converted it unhealthy fat. Bear in mind that healthy weight loss will not come from one or the other alone, but a balance between the two. Only eating less and no exercise is very harmful and does not do much for healthy weight loss. After a point, your body will go into starvation mode and start feeding off muscle instead of fat resulting in undesirable weight loss. Exercise that results in weight loss without changing dietary habits will put too much strain on your body and the benefits will not be worth the pain and medical bills.
Balance is key, find the magic number that gives you the right amount of food and exercise. This will result in healthy weight loss that will be beneficial to you in the long run. Set realistic goals and spread them out across a moderate time frame in order to give your body a healthy head start. I would not recommend crash dieting or intermittent fasting as they tend to cause irreversible damage to your body. Yes they result in rapid weight loss but some of the side effects include ulcers, muscle loss and increased hunger that may cause you to eat more after you have completed them.
If you have problems sticking to a diet or exercise regime, consult a dietician or a trainer to help you reach your weight loss goal the healthy way. Many gyms have trainers that will help you design an exercise schedule that is right for you, they will also tell you what to eat and what to stay away from. Remember to always consult your doctor before you drastically change your diet or exercise habits.

In this world, women are known to be the most fashionable of all. The majority of women all over the world love to wear beautiful clothes to look fashionable. It is also true that women’s dresses have become an important part of the fashion world. There are various reasons for women to add dresses to their wardrobe. A casual dress is an easy to wear outfit for a woman, whereas a formal wear is required for those special occasions. Dresses are available in various styles to make a woman look gorgeous. Women like experimenting with dresses and their confidence level also increases if they know more about dresses.
Depending on the cuts of the women’s dresses, the different styles of dresses can be separated in various categories. You can get dresses from casual styles to formal.
You can wear the casual dress every day as these dresses are easy to wear. The formal dresses are those that you can only wear on special occasions or events. Many formal gowns are quite popular because of some famous fairytales like Rapunzel and Cinderella associated with them. The dream of every girl in her childhood was to grow up to be as beautiful as Cinderella and Rapunzel.
Like women in other parts of the world, in the UK women’s dresses are also quite trendy and fashionable. Some of the styles of dresses that women prefer to wear are:
Jumper dress – These are sweater dresses and the same materials of sweaters are used to make these jumper women’s dresses. People can even wear these dresses throughout the year and they have no sleeves.
Sheath dress – From top to bottom, this dress falls straight like a single garment and is fitted with style. At the waist of the dress there is no seam. This dress is figure hugging and flattering and has no sleeves. You can wear this dress for any semi-formal occasion. They are popularly worn by most of the women in UK.
Maxi dress – The dress that can stand opposite to the mini dress is the maxi dress. These dresses are particularly chic and elegant. These maxi dresses are long dresses and are also figure hugging. You can wear them more during informal occasions as they are made to suit the informal events more than the formal ones.
Shift dress – The style of shift dresses is similar to the sheath dress but these dresses are not fitted or figure hugging. Without any discernible waistline, these dresses can flow and float along your body. Women who have an hourglass figure should not wear this dress.
Wrap dress – These are the wrapper style dresses as the name describes them. You need to tie it manually at the same point by wrapping the dress around your body. At the front of the dress you normally get the closure. You might get knots, zippers, or buttons for the closure of the dress. These dresses are casual ones and you can easily wear them everyday.
When it comes to health care, we men are like ostriches. We bury our heads in the sand. We are much less likely than women to visit our doctors regularly, take symptoms seriously and live a healthful lifestyle. Maybe that’s one reason why women have a seven-year average survival advantage on us!
Yet it’s obviously important that men of all ages become more proactive about their health. And an easy way to start is to follow these 10 basic steps to maintaining health and vitality.
1. Eliminate “White Foods” from Your Diet. White flour, white sugar and other processed foods are not only devoid of vitamins and minerals, but they’ve also been stripped of their natural fibre.
As a result, they rapidly drive up blood sugar levels, which contributes to weight gain, diabetes and a host of other health problems. Avoid breads and baked goods made with white flour, sugar-laden sodas and snack foods. Instead, focus on eating fibre-rich fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains.
2. Stay Away from Dangerous Trans Fats. While it’s important to reduce your overall fat intake, it’s even more important to watch the types of fat you eat. Deep-fried foods and anything made with hydrogenated oils (margarine, peanut butter, shortening, store-bought pastries and cookies) contain trans fats that raise your risk of heart disease. Eat only healthful fats, such as olive oil and the omega-3 oils found in salmon and other cold-water fish, which actually protect against heart disease.
3. Take a Potent Daily Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement. Although there is no substitute for a good diet, I am convinced that for optimal nutrition, you need to take a high-potency multivitamin and mineral supplement. Even if you are eating right, it’s unlikely that your food contains all the nutrients you need. Poor soil quality, storage, processing and cooking deplete our food of vitamins and minerals. Taking a high quality daily supplement is “health insurance” against possible deficiencies.
4. Include Weight Training in Your Exercise Routine. Aerobic exercise is great for cardiovascular conditioning, but it’s vastly inferior to weight training in attacking the “flab factor.” Recent research has shown that as little as once-weekly resistance exercise can improve muscle strength. Even the busiest or laziest among us can find the time and energy for that. Join a gym, consult a personal trainer or ask an experienced friend to show you the ropes.
5. Maintain Your Optimal Weight. Current statistics suggest that half of us are losing the battle of the bulge, but maintaining a healthy weight is one of the best things you can do for yourself. You’ll look better, feel better and reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and other major killers. I know this is easier said than done, but if you just follow the four steps above, you’ll be well on your way.
6. Drink Alcohol Only in Moderation. You’ve probably heard of the “French Paradox,” and that drinking wine protects against heart disease. Repeated studies have shown that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol (all kinds) protects not only against heart disease, but also lowers risk of death from all causes. Remember that moderation is key. While one to two drinks a day are protective, excess alcohol consumption is devastating to health. And for some, one drink is too many.
7. Protect Your Prostate. Around the age of 40, the prostate gland begins a growth spurt that results in symptoms such as frequent nighttime urination. The good news is that this condition, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, can be prevented or reversed by taking extracts of two herbs: saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) and pygeum (Pygeum africanum). Dozens of studies have shown that these herbs work in improving urinary flow without adverse side-effects. Suggested doses are 160 to 320 milligrams of saw palmetto and 40 to 80 mg of pygeum daily.
8. Reduce Your Risk of Prostate Cancer. Experts estimate that 80 per cent of all cancers can be prevented by making healthy lifestyle choices. Avoid saturated and trans fats, which may fuel prostate cancer growth, and incorporate protective foods, such as soy, green tea and tomatoes, into your diet. Soy contains isoflavones with specific anti-cancer activity. Green tea is rich in polyphenols that inhibit the formation of cancer-causing compounds and block the growth of prostate cancer cells. And tomatoes, particularly cooked tomato products, are an excellent source of lycopene, which is linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. In addition, make sure your daily nutritional supplement contains high doses of the antioxidant selenium (200 micrograms) and vitamin E (800 IU), which have been shown to dramatically lower the risk of prostate cancer.
However, there are treatments that are available in the market to alleviate the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer. It depends on the severity of the cancer and the ruling of the doctors that diagnosed the cancer.
A surgery is recommended for the cancer cells to not spread further in the body. Prostatectomy is a surgery wherein the prostate gland will be eliminated from the body to stop the extent of the cancer. Furthermore, there are numerous surgeries that can alleviate prostate cancer examples of these are radical perineal prostatectomy, Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) and laparoscopy.
Men can also undergo chemotherapy in order to prevent the spread of the cancer cells to other parts of the body. Radiation therapy can also be done for men suffering from the disorder.
Also, it is a must for every man with prostate cancer to verbalize their feelings to their doctors, because verbalizing their feelings can help them to release their tensions, and also, doctors can help them to devise a plan in an effective treatment for the disorder.
People who have had undergone surgery and by now are in the healing process, must have an outlet to release their stress. Family members and loved ones must be present in order to make them feel comfortable, thus preventing any signs of depression.
Prostate cancer is truly a disease that can cause men their lives, but it can be prevented through proper methods of medication. Overall, prevention is the most effective way in battling this disease. Men should be very cautious and vigilant on the status of their condition, because it is a must to preserve the level of their health.
However, always keep in mind that the treatments of prostate cancer must be done with doctors advice in order to avoid any adverse reaction that can constitute in the conditions further deterioration. Men must be responsible in every action that they will take.
Alcohol addiction may be present when one is seen as sweating, nauseous, shaky, or mentally unstable when not able to obtain an intoxicating liquid substance. The more one drinks the higher doses will be needed for someone addicted to feel that ‘high’, or ‘buzz’. Drinking can potentially ruin your families, friends, and your own life. Drinking is a risk which you must be able to keep under control and moderate from time to time. Many health problems are associated with excessive alcohol consumption such as cancer, heart disease, brain damage, and liver disease. Excessive consumption of alcohol leads to brain cell loss, and may disturb brain processes necessary to retrieve and process normal day thoughts and information. Large consumption may cut off or shorten the oxygen supply and cause a blackout.
Abusers may suffer from bone weakness and immune deficiencies. Most victims of alcohol are very defensive about their habits. They hate hearing anything pertaining to it, and most of all they try so hard to convince themselves that there is absolutely nothing wrong with what kind of habit their falling into. In fact, many victims are very secretive about their drunken nature that they regularly disguise their appearance and interactions with others. Psychological and physical harm is being done every second they are not looking for a solution to settle the addiction.
Alcohol withdrawal, or an abrupt stop of alcohol consumption can completely remove a balance of alcohol which replaced a once present neuroinhibitor syncope. Both are now gone and the body may act uncontrollably, resulting in many synapses. This may lead to hallucinations, convulsions, heart failure, seizures; all of which is known as the ‘jitterbugs’. ‘Jitterbugs is known as an acute episode of delirium that is usually caused by withdrawal from alcohol, first described in 1813′. Treatment is quite varied as there are many different perspectives for the condition. A common treatment however, would be to discontinue ones alcohol supply while reinstating social connections to keep there mind intact and on track. After alcohol consumption has been discontinued psychological interferences can be dealt with by attending ‘group sessions’ and or psychotherapy. Another way one might face the issue is to take medication to ease the issue into complete sobriety. As a side note, you want to be sure to keep your metabolic system intact in order to eliminate unstable behavior, which is preventable.
A New Zealand study concluded that your risk of major depression increases steadily as a result of alcohol consumption, not the other way around. Intoxicating liquors may trigger genetic makeup that clinches the body into needing something it shouldn’t. Alcohol affects the mind, body, and soul which clearly means you should steer clear of it or use it in moderation in order to prevent this from happening to you. Remember, if your going to drink, be smart. Don’t drink and drive, ALWAYS be in control.
